GGJ26: Rolldventure
I worked solo on this one, and tried to minimize the use of assets not made by me during the jam (close to Ludum Dare "Jam" style). Not great, but could be worse! Fun to make!
How to Play
The main mechanic is this:
- Attacks have a "cap" value.
- In order to hit, you need to roll a dice lower than the cap (i.e., you countdown with dice!)
- The cap is then updated to the value you rolled.
- If the cap is 1, you need to roll a 6.
- The largest the difference between the cap and the value rolled, the more damage you case. So, rolling a lot lower than the cap is good because you do more damage, but is bad because the next roll becomes more difficult.
- If you level up your attack skill, you get more dice to roll. You can chose any of the lower-than-the-cap rolled values to use.
Other than that, just walk around killing monsters until you defeat the diabolic Diabolical wizard! ("Dieabolical" is his given name!)
Tip: Grind a little bit in the locations nearby the Village until you level up a bit. After that, the game shouldn't be hard at all!
Random notes
- I finally managed to use a game jam theme as inspiration for a game mechanic, instead of the "fiction layer". Not a great mechanic, but still!
- Programmer's art rules! :-)
- I am self-nominating me to the "Most Gratuitous Use of 3D" award.
- But I really wanted to try 3D on Godot; have always used 2D with this engine (or any modern engine for that matter).
- Though, of course, this took me so much time I couldn't explore variations on my main mechanic to try and make it minimally interesting!
Tools
This is what I used to make this game:
- Godot
- Blockbench
- Pixelorama
- Audacity
- Gimp
- Assets
All assets created by myself, except:
- Kenney's Casino Audio, by, well, Kenney.
- Er, and all other sound effects (from royalty-free asset packs I bought over the years)
- Macondo Swash Caps font, by John Vargas Beltrán.
